Thoughts on Enjoying Quintesse
We have searched the literature to find information on serving temperature and drinking water. There are several theories in play. Several water connoisseur’s express opinions that the proper temperature for water consumption is around 54 degrees F, warmer than most of us drink our water. Where does this 54 degrees come from? Good question. One theory has it that the typical temperature of earth caves is about 54 degrees, assuming of course that there is no geothermal influence. Springs and shallow wells are in the same temperature range, so the typical temperature of water coming from these sources is about 54 degrees. Connoisseurs must believe that serving water at a “natural” temperature maximizes the taste experience.

Americans typically prefer our beverages colder and we frequently add ice to our drinks. For Quintesse, our suggestion is that you experiment to see your preferred serving temperature. However, we do offer one caution. We do not think that you should add ice to your Quintesse to cool it down, unless that ice is made from Quintesse. We spend so much time and effort to ultra purify, remineralize and disinfect Quintesse that we hate to see it changed by ice. So if you like your Quintesse cold, use refrigeration to cool the bottle or use an ice chest, but do not drop ice into your Quintesse.

Is Colder Really Better?
We have found no articles on the health impacts of drinking water temperature. We have seen some discussion that temperature affects the hydration efficiency—the rate and quantity of water entering your body from your digestive system as a result of consumption temperature, but we have not seen definitive studies on this issue. If you have seen or know of scientific articles on this subject, we would appreciate hearing about them as we are always trying to increase our library on drinking water and health issues. You can email us a copy of the article at info@quintesse.com or send us the link if it is available on the web.

We are also not convinced that relatively slight changes in hydration efficiency really matter for normal activities. We feel that aesthetic qualities such as taste and enjoyment outweigh the need for maximizing hydration efficiency in typical situations. Certainly for high intensity athletic endeavors hydration efficiency can become important, but this is where serious electrolyte loading may become necessary and you should be supplementing your water intake or replacing it with well researched sports drinks.

How do we use Quintesse?
We have brewed our coffee with Quintesse, made our iced tea, added drink mixes, and even used Quintesse to cook our vegetables. We have also used Quintesse as the base water for adding our sports drink powders for our high intensity athletic endeavors. In doing so you will certainly change the character of the water, but if you are going to use water as part of another food or beverage, you can find no better water anywhere. Quintesse’s ultra purity means that you will not be introducing undesirable contaminates into your food or beverage, and our remineralization provides for balanced water to minimally impact the taste of your food or beverage. So, experiment and see how well you will like the taste of your food or beverage prepared with Quintesse.
